Selecting Funeral Flowers: Points to Ponder

Remember that many people will be bringing flowers to the funeral so yours will have to fit in with the others. You can ask the family for ideas if necessary.

If you are facing the prospect of having to send funeral flowers, you may be in need of some guidance when it comes to selecting funeral flowers that will be most appropriate. With this in mind there are some pointers that you will want to keep in mind when it comes to selecting funeral flowers.

The first point that you will want to keep in mind is that when it comes to funeral flowers understated beauty normally is the best selection. In the end, you do not want overblown sprays that resemble headgear of a Vegas floor show. Unfortunately, many people do not follow this simple principle when they purchase funeral flowers. They seem to think that bigger is better. However, when it comes to funeral flowers that simply is not the case.

The second point to consider when it comes to selecting funeral flowers is to follow the wishes of the family. In this day and age you sometimes will see a directive in an obituary or funeral notice that indicates that the family desires a donation to a charity or something else along these lines in lieu of flowers. Therefore, unless you have a particularly close and unique relationship to the family of to the deceased, you need to pay heed to these types of requests.

The third point to pay attention to in regard to funeral flowers plays off of what was just mentioned on this informational listing. There are instances in which a family has requested a donation in lieu of flowers in which it may be acceptable for you to go ahead and have funeral flowers delivered to the family or to the funeral home. The exception to the general rule of following the "in lieu of" request is when you do have a special connection to the family or to the deceased. By this it is meant that you connection is so close that you have been in close contact with the family in the aftermath of the deceased individual's passing. The relationship must be such that the family understands that your desire to send funeral flowers is not an indication that you have overlooked or disregarded the "in lieu of" request.

The fourth point to ponder in regard to funeral flowers is to consider the possibility of sending a live plant to the family. Florists are more than capable of delivering either fresh cut funeral flowers or a live plant, depending on your wishes. Funeral flowers, of course, are memorable and lovely. A live plant will be around (provided the recipient has something of a green thumb) into the future as a living tribute.

Sometimes a tree can even be given. A fruit giving tree can be outstanding reminder of a person's life.

For Ochterski, Graves Do Matter

One stagnantly hot summer morning, a bearded man parked his motorcycle near a cemetery fence, and began systematically walking through the graveyard. He explained that a friend he had served with in Vietnam was buried in the Griffins Mills cemetery, but he wasnt sure where to find his grave. I drove here 80 miles on my bike, he said, waiving off an offer to find the cemeterys directory. I ...
